Odisha: Justice Harish Tandon takes oath as Chief Justice of Orissa High Court

Cuttack, Mar 26: Justice Harish Tandon today took oath as the Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court, succeeding Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh.      

Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati administered the oath of office to Justice Tandon at a ceremony held at the Orissa High Court.

The event was attended by Chief Minister Mohan Majhi, Deputy CM Pravati Parida, several ministers, High Court judges, Bar Association members, and other dignitaries.

Before the oath-taking ceremony, Justice Tandon and his wife visited the Puri Jagannath temple, where they received a warm welcome from District Collector Siddharth Shankar Swain, SP Vinit Agrawal, and temple officials. The couple offered prayers to Lord Jagannath and other deities.

On this occasion, the district administration and temple authorities honored Justice Tandon and his wife with a traditional ‘Khandua Pata’.

Earlier on March 6, the Supreme Court collegium had recommended Justice Tandon’s appointment as Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court. 

Justice Tandon had been serving as a judge at the Calcutta High Court since April 13, 2010.

Born on November 16, 1964, Justice Tandon graduated from Calcutta University in 1983 and completed his LLB from the same university in 1989. He became an Advocate on September 26, 1989.

He started practicing at the Calcutta High Court, mainly handling civil and constitutional cases on the Appellate Side.

He also appeared before the City Civil Court, Debt Recovery Tribunal, and the Supreme Court. On April 13, 2010, he was appointed as a permanent judge of the Calcutta High Court.
