Bhubaneswar, Mar 28: As many as 13 cattle were rescued after a group of 'Gau Sevak' members intercepted a vehicle near Patrapada area of Bhubaneswar this morning.
Acting on a tip-off, the 'Gau Sevak' members intercepted the vehicle which was found to be carrying more than 13 cattle. Following the interception, the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled from the scene.
Sources said that the vehicle was en route from Jadupur and the animals were being transported illegally.
The 'Gau Sevak' members took control of the vehicle and handed it over to the police.
The rescued cattle were sent to a local cowshed for care.
An investigation has been initiated into the matter to find the vehicle's owner and check if the transportation was legal, said the police.
