Chennai, July 1: South Africa skipper Laura Wolvaardt and Sune Luus hit centuries in the second innings after the Proteas were asked to follow on by India.
Despite the duo fighting well, hosts India had a firm grip in the solitary Test on Day 4 at MA Chidambaram Stadium, here on Monday.
Replying to India women's massive first innings score of 603/6 declared, visitors South Africa were bundled out for 266 in 84.3 overs in their first innings. Asked two follow on, the Proteas were 336/8 in their second innings.
South Africa captain Wolvaardt put up a valiant fight with a classy 122 (314 balls) and Luus hit 109 (203 balls). The two shared a superb 190 runs partnership for the second wicket.
But apart from the duo, fast bowling all-rounder Nadine de Klerk could put up a fight, as Indian bowlers up their ante on the fourth day.
Earlier, India declared their first innings at 603/6, with keeper-batter Richa Ghosh hitting a stroke-filled 86 in just 90 balls and her skipper Harmanpreet Kaur scored 69.
On Day 1, Indian openers dominated the Proteas. Shafali Verma (205) and Smriti Mandhana (149) shared a 292 runs partnership for the first wicket.
