New Delhi, March 25: Congress MP Manish Tewari has filed an Adjournment Motion in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday, calling for the suspension of the House's regular proceedings to urgently discuss concerns regarding alleged irregularities in the higher judiciary. In his motion, Tewari emphasized the importance of addressing the matter, which he described as being of national significance.

Tewari reminded the House that India’s democracy is upheld by the four pillars: the executive, legislature, judiciary, and a free press. He expressed alarm over the alleged judicial aberrations, which, he said, have raised serious concerns both within the legal community and among citizens across the nation. "Recent reports of these alleged irregularities have disturbed the legal fraternity and citizens across the country. As the supreme legislative body, Parliament has the duty to exercise oversight over both the executive and judiciary, and must rise to the occasion," Tewari stated in his motion.

The Congress MP called on the government to make a comprehensive statement in the House on the incidents in question, given the growing concerns regarding the integrity, impartiality, and fairness of the judicial system. He further sought permission from the Chair to raise the issue urgently, underscoring its critical importance in maintaining public trust and confidence in India's judiciary.

In a separate development, the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned on Monday as the BJP sought to corner the Congress over remarks made by Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar about the Constitution. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and Union Health Minister JP Nadda led the BJP's attack, prompting a response from the Congress. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh submitted a breach of privilege notice against Rijiju in the Rajya Sabha. A ruckus had erupted in the Rajya Sabha on Monday following Shivakumar's controversial remarks, with BJP leaders accusing him of suggesting "changing the Constitution."
