FSSAI declares packaged water a ‘High-Risk' food category’ to ensure safety

Bhubaneswar, Mar 28: In a noteworthy development concerning public health, maintenance of hygiene and avoidance of contamination led the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) to categorize packaged drinking water and mineral water under ‘High-Risk Food Category’. Such categorization would help institute a better standard of quality control aimed towards making consumers safer.
This classification would ensure packaged bottled water is of better quality and contended with India’s growing concerns on water contamination. This would also make it mandatory for the manufacturers to follow Increased scrutiny such as more frequent checking sites and more compliance to regulatory requirements.
To help reduce the market of substandard products, this move will help improve packaged water quality thus assuring consumers. As the government increases its control over the bottled water industry, consumers are expected to check FSSAI certification check while purchasing to ensure that safety protocols were followed.
With these measures, FSSAI aims to ensure food safety and guarantee public contaminants free drinking water.
