Bhubaneswar, Apr 28: In a major crackdown on ganja smuggling, Commissionerate Police in Bhubaneswar on Monday seized cannabis worth over Rs 1 crore while it was being smuggled out of the state and arrested two persons in this connection.
Acting on a tip-off, the Special Crime Unit of Commissionerate Police intercepted a truck near Kharavela Park in the Khandagiri area and conducted a search.
During the search, the truck, which was disguised as a camphor transporter, was found to be carrying five quintals of cannabis hidden behind packets of camphor.
Though the exact details are yet to be ascertained, prima facie revealed that the cannabis was being smuggled from Phulbani and was on its way to Himachal Pradesh.
The Commissionerate Police are now continuing their investigation to uncover the smuggling network, identify key players, and trace any connections to larger drug trafficking operations.
