Jammu, April 28: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly passed a resolution on Monday during a special session, condemning the terror attack that took place in Pahalgam on April 22.

The resolution, introduced to express strong disapproval of the attack and extend solidarity to the victims and their families, was moved by Jammu and Kashmir Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, following the opening remarks by Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather.

The resolution was unanimously adopted without a vote, after which the assembly session was adjourned sine die.

It endorsed the diplomatic measures announced by the Union Government following a Cabinet Committee on Security meeting. The resolution described the attack as an assault on the core values of "Kashmiriyat," the Constitution, and the spirit of unity, peace, and harmony in Jammu and Kashmir, and conveyed full solidarity with the victims and their families, offering condolences to those affected.

The Assembly condemned the terror attack and observed a two-minute silence in memory of the 26 individuals killed in the attack on April 22. The resolution expressed the House’s profound shock and anguish at the barbaric assault on innocent civilians in Pahalgam, categorizing it as a cowardly act that led to the tragic loss of life.

The document further recognized the bravery of Shaheed Syed Adil Hussain Shah, who sacrificed his life while trying to save tourists during the attack. "This House salutes the supreme sacrifice of Shaheed Syed Adil Hussain Shah, who, while bravely attempting to save tourists, laid down his life. His courage and selflessness embody the true spirit of Kashmir and shall serve as an enduring inspiration for future generations," the resolution stated.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reiterated that he would not demand statehood for the region in the wake of the attack, emphasizing that his politics were not "so cheap."

He clarified that while he still supported the demand for statehood, he believed it was not appropriate to raise the issue at a time when the nation was mourning the tragic loss of 26 lives.
