Bhubaneswar, Oct 14: The vibrant nine-day celebration of Durga Puja ended on Monday in Odisha. The twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar are preparing for the grand idol immersion, locally known as ‘Bhasani Utsav’ today.

Devotees will say their final goodbyes to Maa Durga with the ceremonial immersion of decorated idols, starting around 3 pm. Special temporary ponds have been set up in both cities to accommodate the idol immersions.

In Cuttack, over 120 idols will be immersed at Devigada, with lorry processions from puja pandals making their way to the Kathajodi River, accompanied by music and dance. Three makeshift ponds have been created along the riverbank, and due to low water levels, pump sets are on standby to fill the ponds.

Strict security measures have been put in place by the Commissionerate Police, and a traffic advisory has been issued to avoid congestion. Sanitation, drinking water, and lighting have been prioritized at Devigada, with restrictions on DJ music, laser lights, and fireguns during the immersion process, which will continue until midnight.

In Bhubaneswar, the Municipal Corporation (BMC) has created five large temporary ponds to facilitate the smooth immersion of idols. Two ponds are near Kuakhai River, two more at  Daya River, and the fifth near Sai Temple in Hanspal.
