Cuttack, Dec 15: In a tragic incident, as many as six became critical and at least scores of audience were left injured after the tentage of an Opera Party collapsed during show in Cuttack.
The incident took place in the Salipur area late at night on Saturday
Sources said, a Yatra Party was performing its show at the Raisunguda village where hundreds of people thronged there to enjoy the theatre. Meanwhile, the entry gate of a jatra party collapsed all of a sudden under which the audience were pressed and remained stranded for hours. The heavy iron gates also collapsed on the spectators, leaving as many as 30 persons struck under them.
On being informed, police and fire service personnel rescued the injured persons and rushed them to the nearby hospitals. Six persons with critical injuries were later shifted to the SCB Medical College & Hospital for resuscitation.
The Salipur police has initiated an investigation into the matter while the district administration is reportedly taking stock of the incident. Meanwhile, the Manager of the theatre was picked by the police for interrogation.
