Rourkela, Dec 12: Eight Bengali-speaking migrant workers were on Thursday stripped and paraded for allegedly misbehaving with woman in Odisha’s Sundargarh district, police said.
Locals thrashed them tying their hands and paraded in a semi-nude condition on Mission Road between today morning.
The victims hail from West Bengal's Murshidabad district and were working as masons in Sundargarh town.
Sundargarh Town police rushed to the spot being informed about the incident and rescued the eight persons.
Two cases have been registered - one against 10 persons for stripping, thrashing, and parading the eight workers, and another based on the woman’s complaint against one of the workers, said police.
Raids are on to arrest the 10 persons who humiliated and assaulted the workers.
The woman in her police complaint alleged that one of the workers attempted to outrage her modesty while she was returning home after taking bath on Wednesday.
After the woman complained about the incident, her relatives and locals attacked the rented house of the workers and assaulted them.
