Bhubaneswar, Nov 20: Over Rs 8,000 crore has been estimated for construction of the 'New City' on Bhubaneswar outskirts and the BDA has started land acquisition process for the project, Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra said on Tuesday.
"As per estimation, the proposed project will require investment of Rs 8,169 crore of which Rs 6,069 crore has been pegged for built-up space and another Rs 2,100 crore for infrastructure. The Centre will provide financial aid for the project. A team from the Centre recently conducted a survey of the project, said Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) vice-chairman Dr. N. Thirumala Naik.
The city has been targeted to be a solar city with around 60 percent consumption of solar power, he added.
The New City has been planned in Malipada, Daspur and Gothapatana areas on Bhubaneswar city outskirts with residential facility of around 2 lakh people, said a senior official of BDA.
A four-lane road will be constructed from Naka Gate Square to Kateni for better communication to the New City, along with connecting roads to manage traffic congestion.
The city will be connected with Mo Bus service with plying of only e-buses along with Bhubaneswar Metro Train connectivity
