Chandigarh, July 22: In Haryana's Ambala district, a former serviceman allegedly murdered five members of his family by slashing their throats with a sharp weapon, as reported by the police on Monday. The victims included his mother, brother, sister-in-law, and two children. Two others were injured in the attack and have been hospitalized.
Following the crime, the accused attempted to cremate the bodies late at night, but police intervened and discovered the partially burned remains. The retired soldier fled the scene thereafter.
The incident occurred in the Narayangarh area and is believed to stem from a dispute over a two-acre land parcel. The deceased were identified as Harish (35), his wife Sonia (32), his mother Saropi (65), his five-year-old daughter, and six-month-old son. Om Prakash, the injured father, is receiving treatment at Narayangarh Civil Hospital, approximately 35 km from the state capital. One of the daughters sustained critical injuries and has been referred to the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI) in Chandigarh.
The police have placed all bodies in the mortuary at Civil Hospital. Superintendent of Police Surendra Singh Bhauria arrived at the scene at 3 a.m. to initiate the investigation, with multiple teams deployed to apprehend the accused.
