Bhubaneswar, December 31: Four persons have been arrested in connection with a sensitive women assault case under the Remuna police jurisdiction in Balasore district, informed Dr. Satyajit Naik, DIG, Eastern Range, on Tuesday.
Addressing a press conference, Dr. Naik said that the accused—Pitambar Biswal, Prasanta Nayak, Jayanta Nayak, and Badal Panda—were apprehended about the incident.
According to the report, the case stems from a complaint lodged on December 27. The complainant alleged that on December 26, Bapina Nayak of Chhankhanpur village entered his house and assaulted him without provocation. When the complainant resisted, Bapina, along with Pitambar and Prasanta, forcibly entered the house and physically attacked the complainant, his relative Subasini Singh, and a neighbor, Sukanti Singh.
The accused reportedly outraged the modesty of the women by dragging and tying them to a pillar with ropes. Additionally, they, along with 10 to 15 accomplices, verbally abused the victims with obscene and casteist remarks while assaulting them. Badal Panda allegedly instructed his associates to photograph and record videos of the incident. He also participated in the assault and issued threats of dire consequences.
Dr. Naik stated that the investigation is ongoing, and efforts are underway to apprehend the other individuals involved in the crime.
This incident highlights the urgent need for swift justice and the importance of addressing crimes against women and marginalized communities.
