Bridgetown (Barbados), July 2: We are glad that we could present our Head Coach Rahul Dravid the coveted World Cup Trophy as a farewell gift.
His contributions to world cricket and Team India for last 20 to 25 years are immense, first as a player, then as Captain and now as the Head Coach. Since the World Cup Trophy was missing from his cabinet, we are glad that we could win that for him.
These were the words of Team India captain Rohit Sharma for outgoing Head Coach Rahul Dravid, after the team lifted the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024.
As it was Rahul Dravid's last assignment with Team India, so Rohit expressed his happiness that the team could present the outgoing Head Coach with a World Cup Trophy, something the former Indian captain badly missed.
He reminded how a silent and devoted coach Dravid would work with utmost sincerity and keep the team motivated always. He would even speak to players who were not in the team and advise them to work hard to make a comeback into the squad, Rohit added.
It was great in part of Rahul 'Bhai' (elder brother) to individually speak to all players and give them a clarity about their roles for the team, Rohit narrated.
Speaking about how happy Dravid was after the World Cup triumph, Rohit reminded that the reactions of the legend coach with the trophy narrated his joy, elation and years long devotion to achieve that goal.
Rohit also stated that personally for him, winning the T20 World Cup 2024 was one of the greatest moments of his career.
After India's World Cup triumph, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja also announced their retirement from T20Is. However, they would continue to be available for the ODIs and Test matches, they stated.
