Cuttack, AP 12: Former Health and Family Welfare (H&FW) and Women and Child Development (WCD) Minister Kamala Das passed away while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Cuttack today.
Kamala Das succumbed to prolonged illness. She had been battling health issues for a long time and was admitted to the hospital for medical care.
Born in 1945, Kamala Das was a political figure and actively participated in Odisha's political arena, particularly as a member of the BJD. She served Bhogarai constituency three times, showcasing her leadership qualities.
In 1990, she entered politics as a Janata Dal candidate and defeated Congress. In 1995, she secured victory for the second time by 14,300 votes.
Continuing her political journey, Das contested in 2000 as a BJD candidate and defeated Congress leader Dr. Kartikeswar Patra by 1055 votes.
In 2014, she left the Congress and joined the Biju Janata Dal.
