Bhubaneswar, Oct 14: A case was lodged with the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) on Sunday in connection with the alleged rape of an Odisha woman in Delhi.
Advocate and human rights activist Radhakant Tripathy filed the case accusing the Delhi government of failing to protect the destitute and hapless woman, who was rescued by the police in Sarai Kale Khan area of the national capital city on the night of October 10.
Tripathy has also urged the NHRC to investigate the matter in an independent and impartial manner.
He further accused the Delhi government of not learning to take precautionary and preventive measures even after the Nirbhaya case.
The petition has also asked the Indian Summit Rights Authority to issue directions for the rehabilitation of the victim with adequate medical care and compensation.
According to reports, a 34-year-old woman, a nursing graduate from Odisha, was allegedly raped by unknown miscreants on October 10 night.
The victim was rescued in a semi-conscious state in Sarai Kale Khan area of southeast Delhi on October 11 by the police and taken to AIIMS Trauma Center where she is undergoing treatment.
The Delhi Police has launched a probe into the matter registering a case against unknown perpetrators under Section 70(1). 1 (gang rape) and 115 sec. 2 (voluntarily causing hurt) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Act.
