Bolangir, Aug 2: Police in Odisha’s Bolangir district successfully busted an inter-state robbery gang and arrested nine persons in this connection.
Among the arrestees, six people are from Madhya Pradesh, two are from Maharashtra and one is a resident of Odisha’s Bargarh district.
The cops have recovered 160 grams of gold, 1708 grams of silver, seven mobile phones and Rs 2 lakh cash from their possession, and seized them. Several bank accounts belonging to the accused persons have also been unearthed, which have been frozen.
Initially, the gang members, disguised as toy vendors, would sell the balloons and other toys in various villages in Bolangir. While conducting their business, they would surveil homes. Later, they would carry out the robberies and thefts at night, informed Balangir SP Rishikesh Khilari.
As per reports, several reports of thefts and robberies were being reported from both the city and surrounding villages. Following the complaints, police swung into action and launched an investigation into the matter. A special team was formed and checkpoints were set up to nab the culprits. Their efforts bore fruit as they successfully nabbed the gang.
The gang has a history of similar offenses, with multiple cases already registered against them, added Khilari.
Further investigation into the matter is underway.
