Bhubaneswar: The Bharatiya Janata Party MP from Mandi Lom Sabha and 'Queen' of B-Town Kangana Ranaut makes history again. The Manikarnika actress will join the hoary league of Madhubala and Vyjyanthimala, as the actress-turned-politician will be enacting a triple role in the upcoming sequel of Tanu Weds Manu.
As per a report in Pinkvilla, Aanand L Rai, along with his writer-partner Himanshu Sharma, has finally locked the plot for the much-anticipated third installment. According to the report, Tanu Weds Manu 3 will pick up right from where the first two films left off.
“It’s a true continuation, and the story naturally evolves into a trilogy. Just like the previous films, the third chapter will also be a mix of humor, romance, and drama. The concept is now locked, and the plan is to begin shooting in the second half of 2025,” reported Pinkvilla.
The report further added that the film is expected to hit the floors by July or August 2025, once Rai wraps up Tere Ishk Mein with Dhanush and Kriti Sanon. As for Tanu Weds Manu 3, it's expected to be a major theatrical event in 2026, and all eyes are on the franchise to continue its 100 per cent box office success streak. In the meantime, Kangana is gearing up for the release of Emergency.
TANU WEDS MANU FRANCHISE
The franchise Tanu Weds Manu has been a very popular. Started in 2011, Tanu Weds Manu brought together Aanand L Rai, Kangana Ranaut, and R Madhavan, delivering a surprise box-office hit. Fast forward to 2015, the trio reunited for Tanu Weds Manu Returns, and the film not only smashed records but also became the highest-grossing Hindi film led by a female lead.
TRIPLE ROLE IN HINDI CINEMA
Kangana is joining the list of illustrative veterans by delivering a triple role in the film. Prior to her, none, including Rekha, Hema Malini, Sridevi, had the privilege to do triple role. Bollywood archives show two veteran actresses – Madhubal and Vyjyanthimala – had done the triple role in any movie.
MADHUBALA: Enacted a triple role in film Phagun (1958): This a reincarnation drama directed by Bibhuti Mitra. Madhubala and Bharat Bhushan essayed role of lovers in a previous birth and husband-wife in the current birth. Madhubala has a triple role as she also gets to play the mother in the previous birth and had a very small role as she dies at childbirth.
VYJYANTHIMALA: Played a triple role is superhit film Madhumati (1958): Directed by Bimal Roy, it is considered to be the best amongst all the reincarnation stories ever told in Hindi cinema. This one was a love story-cum-murder drama and featured Vyjayantimala in a triple role.
