Bhubaneswar, Oct 5: As the mysterious death of a ganja smuggler has dragged the Kandhamal police into a mesh of controvercy, the Odisha government has ordered a Crime Branch probe into the matter.
The CID, Crime Branch will now probe the mysterious death of one Jyestha Bandaki who was allegedly abetted to death in Kandhamal district.
Crime Branch DSP Rajat Ray is asked to lead the investigation who will probe the alleged involvement of the patrolling team in the incident.
Following the agaitations raised by the locals and based on the complaints of the deceased family members, the SP Kandhamal had earlier initiated strictest action against some cops and home guards associated with the Gochhapada police station.
Worth mentioning, alleged ganja smuggler Jyestha’s body was found near Danganamu ghat under Gochapada police station on September 26 in a suspicious condition. Later, it was alleged that he was crushed to death by the PCR van during his interception by the night patrol team on September 26.
On the basis of the primary investigation the Kandhamal SP suspended two cops and terminated three home guards in connection with the incident on October 2 that put the district police in soup.
