Divine Offering

In a move that underscores both quality and devotion, the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) has entrusted the supply of ghee for its revered laddus to Nandini, a renowned dairy brand from Karnataka. This decision comes in the wake of recent controversies surrounding the alleged adulteration of the temple's iconic prasadam, prompting the Andhra Pradesh government and the TTD to prioritize purity and authenticity.

Nandini, a household name in South India, enjoys a reputation akin to Amul and Mother Dairy in the North. Owned by the Karnataka Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation Limited (KMF), the second-largest dairy cooperative in India, Nandini has earned the trust of millions with its commitment to quality and its deep roots in the community.

KMF's journey began modestly in 1955 with the establishment of its first dairy cooperative in Karnataka's Kodagu district. At a time when milk was scarce and delivered directly from farmers to households, the cooperative sought to address the growing demand and ensure fair prices for both producers and consumers.

The 1970s witnessed a transformative period for India's dairy industry, with the 'White Revolution' driving efforts to boost milk production. KMF played a pivotal role in this movement, supported by World Bank projects and the formation of the Karnataka Dairy Development Corporation (KDCC) in 1974. A decade later, KDCC evolved into KMF, launching the iconic Nandini brand and its range of packaged milk and dairy products.

Today, KMF stands as a testament to the power of cooperation and community. With 15 dairy unions across Karnataka, it connects over 2.6 million farmers in 24,000 villages, procuring over 8.6 million kilograms of milk daily. This vast network ensures a steady supply of fresh, high-quality milk, which is processed and packaged at KMF's 15 units before reaching consumers through various channels.

One of KMF's remarkable features is its commitment to fair practices and timely payments. Farmers, who are the backbone of the federation, receive daily payments for their milk, totaling over Rs 28 crore each day. This system empowers small farmers and rural communities, fostering economic stability and sustainable livelihoods.

The selection of Nandini as the ghee supplier for Tirupati laddus signifies more than just a business transaction. It represents a confluence of tradition, quality, and devotion. The laddus, offered as prasadam to millions of devotees visiting the sacred Tirupati temple, are imbued with deep religious significance. By choosing Nandini, the TTD has reaffirmed its commitment to providing devotees with an offering that is both pure and divine.
