Lausanne (Switzerland), Aug 17: Is he suffering from a serious groin injury? Will he undergo surgery before making an appearance at the next javelin throw competition?
These questions continue to disturb Indian javelin throw icon and Paris Olympics 2024 Silver medal winner Neeraj Chopra's fans. But the athlete himself has clarified that he is ready to compete at the upcoming Diamond League meet in Lausanne on August 22. He also indicated that his groin injury is not that serious.
He further stated though he took a break after Tokyo Olympics Gold medal show, but later felt he could have continued after Tokyo Games. Hence, he will continue participating in a few more championships after Paris Olympics and take a break later.
Earlier, he had stated that after Paris Olympics he will undergo a surgery. But now it appears that he has changed his plans and decided to delay the surgery. Rather he will participate in a few more events before his surgery.
It can be recalled that Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem won the Gold in Paris Olympics with a world record throw of 92.97 metre. Not fully fit, Neeraj landed his best throw of the season of 89.45 metres in the final to secure a Silver medal.
Neeraj had won the Gold in Tokyo Games and Nadeem was the Silver medallist. But in Paris, their medals were swapped.
As per the schedule, after the Lausanne Diamond League, the Zurich Diamond League meet will be held on September 5 before the final in Brussels on September 14.
Neeraj's statement reveals that in all probability he will undergo surgery after the season is complete. India would surely hope its champion athlete to regain full fitness and continue to dominate javelin throw events across the world.
