Koraput, Aug 14: Two Homeguards were sacked and at least four cops were suspended in Odisha’s Koraput district on Wednesday for nexus with ganja syndicates.
Apart from it several police officers have now landed in soup after allegedly releasing some criminals involved in Ganja (dry cannabis) smuggling and their vehicles involved in trafficking the green contraband.
Koraput SP, following a thorough investigation, has suspended three Sub-Inspectors and two constables and ousted two homeguards in this connection.
Sources said,a joint team of Machhkund and Lamtaput police had intercepted a truck, suspected to be engaged in ganja smuggling on Monday night.Instead of nabbing the criminals and seizing the vehicle, the police personnel allegedly released them.
After a report on Prameya News7 regarding the illegal act, the district police swung into action and launched a probe. Meanwhile, at least seven police personnel were found involved in the illegal act.
Further investigation is underway. Stern actions will be initiated against others if found guilty, said the SP.
