Bhubaneswar, July 25: A 70-year-old retired Odisha government employee was arrested for duping Rs 25 lakh from a job seeker in Bhubaneswar, police said on Thursday.
The arrested has been identified as Bhimasena Maharana of Similisahi in Nayagarh district. He is residing at a government quarter in Unit – VIII under capital police station.
According to police, the accused is a retired employee of Higher Education Department. A youth, Debendra Prasad Parida of Pattamundai area in Kendrapara district was preparing for competitive examinations in Bhubaneswar.
Debendra used to visit the Jayadev Bhawan library for study where he had met Bhimasena in 2021.
After frequent visits, the accused asked Debendra that he will help him to get the job of a Revenue Inspector (RI) using his connections for Rs 25 lakh.
After getting the money, Bhimasena avoided Debendra. Later, the complainant got to know that he has been cheated by the old man following which he filed a complaint at Capital police station. Police arrested him on Wednesday. He was forwarded to court after his bail plea got rejected by a local court, said police.
Earlier, Bhimasena was arrested on June 13 for duping Rs 11 lakh from another job seeker, Gyanaranjan Sethi of Kendrapara district and was on bail, said the investigating officer.
