Sambalpur, Oct 10: A criminal sustained grievous injury in police encounter in Sambalpur district of Odisha on Thursday, police said.
The miscreant had hacked a police constable’s palm six days ago. Acting on a tip-off about his hideout in Katapali forest near Burla, a police team conducted raid this morning.
When the team led by Burla IIC Anil Pradhan raided the forest and tried to capture him, the miscreant tried to give police a slip by attacking them. Sub-inspector Debashis Khilar got injured in attack by Pradhan with a sharp weapon.
Police retaliated and opened fire at the miscreant, Kamalu Pradhan. He has suffered bullet injuries on his right leg. Police rushed Pradhan and Khilar to Burla Hospital for treatment.
Kamalu Pradhan, who is a driver by profession, was always creating in his village over petty issues. He had hacked the palm of a police constable, Saroj Bhoi on October 4 while he had visited Jharapali village following a clash.
Bhoi was critically injured in the attack and underwent a major surgery at Cuttack SCB Medical College and Hospital.
