Nayagarh, Nov 9: In a horrific incident, a mentally-challenged woman was left battling for life after she was allegedly raped and stabbed in Itamati locality of Odisha’s Nayagarh district last night.
As per reports, the incident took place at Baunsiapada village under Itamati police limits when the victim was sleeping at the verandah of a house and a youth, identified as Panda, of the village raped her. Later, the accused, who was reportedly in an inebriated state, stabbed the woman with a knife and fled from the spot. Thereafter, the victim’s family members spotted her lying in a pool of blood and rushed her to the Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital for treatment. Upon getting the information, Itamati police rushed to the spot and took stock of the situation.
An investigation has been initiated into the incident and efforts are on to nab the accused, said the police.
