Cuttack, July 11: In a shocking incident, a 57-year-old man was crushed to death under the wheels of a bus carrying his son’s marriage party in Odisha.
The mishap took place near deceased Bimbadhar’s house at Chatarapada village in Cuttack’s Narasinghpur block on Wednesday when the marriage party of his 22-year-old son Babul was getting ready to set out for the wedding venue at Tagilo village, said police.
According to reports, Bimbadhar had arranged three cars and a bus for the groom and baraatis. Bimbadhar along with other baratis were waiting to board the bus. However, the bus did not start following which some people pushed it from behind.
Subsequently, the bus started running but the driver could not control the vehicle due to brake failure and it ran over Bimbadhar who was waiting on the village road.
He was rushed to Narasinghpur community health centre in a critical condition where the attending doctor declared him dead.
A pall of gloom descended on the village following his death and irate locals blocked Narasinghpur-Angul road near Chatarapada demanding adequate compensation to the family of the deceased.
The local administration reached the spot and provided Rs 10,000 from the Red Cross Fund and the bus owner assured to compensate the bereaved family adequately.
