Bhubaneswar, Mar 21: In a tragic incident, one person was killed and six others sustained injuries after a vehicle carrying a wedding party overturned in Junagarh area of Odisha’s Kalahandi district in the wee hours of Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Bhajan Kar, a resident of Bargaon in the district.
As per reports, the mishap took place near Chiliguda village on National Highway 26 under Junagarh police limits in the district when the victims were travelling from Bargaon to Chhattisgarh’s Kirandul and were part of the groom’s wedding party.
The driver of the ill-fated vehicle reportedly lost control over the wheels and overturned resulting in the death of Bhajan on the spot. Six passengers, identified as Subas Khamari, Babillu Harizan, Sumant Kar, Dharmaraj Kar, Arup Khemari, and Tofan Sunani were severely injured in the accident.
Upon getting the information, police and fire department personnel rushed to the spot and rescue the victims. They were admitted to Kokasara Hospital for treatment and later shifted to the SRM Medical College and Hospital in the district headquarters as their health condition deteriorated.
Further investigation into the matter was underway.
