Bhubaneswar, Apr 19: Amid intense heat wave conditions prevailing in Odisha, the first death case due to sunstroke has been reported in the state today, informed Public Health Director Dr Niranjan Mishra.
As per reports, one person from Balasore district died of sunstroke.
Notably, a total of 71 persons have been admitted to different hospitals across the state after falling sick due to heat wave. Sundargarh district topped the list with 35 such cases. Meanwhile, seven cases have been reported from Mayurbhanj and Angul each.
On the other hand, seven places across the state recorded temperature above 40 degree Celsius till 2:30 pm today.
Jharsuguda topped the list and sizzled at 43.8 degree Celsius followed by Sambalpur at 42.4 degree Celsius and Keonjhar at 42.2 degree Celsius. While Chandbali recorded 42.2 degree Celsius, Hirakud witnessed 42 degree Celsius, Rourkela saw 41.8 degree Celsius and Bhubaneswar recorded 41.4 degree Celsius.
The temperatures recorded at other places are as follows:
- Balasore: 39.4°C
- Paradip: 34.8°C
- Puri: 34.4°C
- Gopalpur: 33.6°C
