Bhubaneswar, Mar 20: Pandemonium prevailed in Odisha Assembly during the ongoing budget session on Thursday as the opposition Congress created ruckus over several issues.
As soon as the house assembled for the day, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Pravida proposed observing a moment of silence to honor the passing of former BJD MLA Debaraj Seth.
Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik and the Congress also expressed their condolences.
However, pandemonium prevailed in the House as the Question Hour began. Opposition Congress members disrupted the assembly with hooting and whistling.
As Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling started his address in the house, several Congress members approached the podium, stood up from their seats, and raised slogans.
The Opposition reportedly resorted to sloganeering, demanding government responses on crimes against women.
Congress members, wearing black armbands, also strongly protested the recent suspension of their party leader Tara Prasad Bahinipati.
As the pandemonium prevailed despite repeated requests, Speaker Surama Padhy, unable to run the house, adjourned the proceedings till 12:00 PM and again till 12:30 pm.
