New Delhi, October 12: President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi today participated in Dussehra celebrations at Lal Quila Maidan in Delhi. They witnessed the burning of effigies of demon king Ravana, his brother Kumbhakaran, and his son Meghnad which signifies the victory of good over evil. Thousands of people attended the Dussehra program organized by the Shri Dharmik Leela Committee at Lal Quila Maidan.

Both leaders applied ‘tilak’ to the artists portraying Lord Ram, Lakshman, and Hanuman, adding a spiritual touch to the celebration.

Earlier in the day, both leaders extended their greetings to the nation. President Murmu, in a heartfelt message on X (formerly Twitter), wished the country on the auspicious occasion of Vijayadashami, emphasizing the triumph of justice over injustice. "This festival symbolizes our belief in truth and morality. May this occasion bring happiness, prosperity, and further our country’s progress," she wrote.

PM Modi also conveyed his best wishes on X, invoking the blessings of Maa Durga and Lord Shri Ram. "I wish that all of you achieve victory in every sphere of life," he added.

Vijayadashami, also known as Dussehra, marks the conclusion of Navaratri and is observed on the tenth day of the Hindu month of Ashvin. The festival also signals the beginning of Diwali preparations, celebrated twenty days after Vijayadashami.
