Bhubaneswar, February 24: In a bid to strengthen security and reduce crime, additional artificial intelligence (AI)-)-enabled cameras will be installed across the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.
The announcement was made by the Twin City Police Commissioner, S. Dev Datta Singh, on Monday.
During a press meeting here, Police Commissioner Singh said that approximately 1,000 cameras are already operational in various locations within the cities. However, he noted that given the population size and increasing security demands, these cameras are insufficient. As a result, the police have recommended to the government the installation of additional cameras to bolster security.
Singh explained that these new cameras would be AI-enabled. "These cameras will assist in identifying criminals and enhance analytical capabilities, which will significantly strengthen our crime prevention and detection efforts. By integrating more advanced technology, we aim to make the security system more efficient and responsive."
Police Commissioner Singh also addressed recent incidents, including robberies, where police successfully apprehended suspects and recovered stolen goods.
He further encouraged apartment owners to install more CCTV cameras and consider hiring security guards to enhance safety within residential areas.
