Mumbai, Aug 15: Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan, recently honored with the prestigious Pardo alla Carriera (Career Leopard) at the 77th Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland, has shared his thoughts on his cinematic preferences and career trajectory. Known as the “King of Romance,” Khan has revealed that, as a viewer, he places other film genres above romantic movies.
In an interview with Variety, Khan expressed his surprise at being labeled a romantic hero, noting that he never considered himself as such. Reflecting on his career, he mentioned, “The other day, I was sitting with director Aditya Chopra, who began this journey with Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. He pointed out that I’ve done about five or six classic romantic films. I agree with him, but I never imagined I’d be classified in this way.”
The megastar shared his aspiration for his filmography, saying, “I dream of having a room filled with pictures where each film represents a genre I grew up watching.” He emphasized his diverse tastes as a viewer: “I’m not restricted to one genre. I enjoy action films, science fiction, dystopian worlds, off-beat human dramas, courtroom dramas, thrillers, and even occasional horror films.”
Khan also reflected on his career shift, noting, “A couple of years ago, when I wasn’t working, I realized I hadn’t done a pure action film. I admire Tom Cruise's work in Mission Impossible; you always leave the theater satisfied.”
