Nagarkurnool, March 25: A rescue team on Tuesday recovered another body from the collapsed SLBC tunnel in Nagarkurnool, Telangana, as per official reports. The body has been transported to Nagarkurnool General Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Rescue efforts continue as teams work to ensure no one else remains trapped inside the tunnel, which collapsed on February 22, trapping eight workers.
One of the trapped workers, Gurpreet Singh, was recovered on March 9.
Telangana's Chief Minister, Revanth Reddy, had announced an exgratia payment of Rs 25 lakh to the families of the deceased.
On March 11, robotic teams were deployed to search for and rescue the trapped workers within the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel. The operation involved 110 rescue personnel, including experts from Anvi Robo.
The state’s Minister for Irrigation and Civil Supplies, Uttam Kumar Reddy, referred to the incident as a national disaster, emphasizing that the state government was employing advanced global technology to overcome the challenges of the final phase of the 14-kilometer tunnel.
To assist in the operations, two cadaver dogs and their handlers from the Kerala Police were brought to the site on March 6.
The collapse, which occurred on February 22, involved a three-meter section of the roof of an under-construction section of the SLBC tunnel near Domalapenta in Nagarkurnool district. The incident happened just days after construction work had resumed following a long pause. While some workers managed to escape, eight others were trapped inside.
