Bhubaneswar, March 28: In a major crackdown, the Commissionerate Police foiled a major robbery bid hatched in the Jatani area to loot Jewellery shops in Khordha district.
Five robbers were arrested whereas huge cache of arms and ammunitions were recovered from their possession in including five bombs.
Sources said, a gang of robbers armed with bombs, was reading for a robbery from a grand jewellery house located in Khordha town at a desolate place near the Benapanjari water tank late at night on Wednesday.
Acting on a tip off from the locals, Jatani police spied in plain cladding and manage to overpower the gang.
During interrogation it was revealed that the accused are wanted in various cases relating to bombing, loot and robberies pending against them in different parts of the state and in Bhubaneswar.
Speaking to the media, DCP Prateek Singh said, the Jatani Police succeeded to bust the notorious gang, rampant in Jewellery loot and loot from ATM cash- carrying vans.
Detail investigation is underway to unearth the gang’s involvement in other crimes in other parts of the state, the DCP added.
