Bhubaneswar, March 29: With the simultaneous General Election afoot, poll campaign has remarkably begun from Western Odisha on Friday following the announcement of candidates from ruling BJD and its prime opposition BJP.
Though the elections in the Western Odisha segment is scheduled to begin after May 13, candidature of heavyweight leaders from the BJD and BJP, have heated up the political eco-system in Sambalpur and Bargarh districts today.
The Naveen Patnaik led BJD has fielded heavyweight and organizational secretary of the party, Pranab Prakash Das alias Bobby as the candidate for the Sambalpur Loksabha Segment. On the contrary, BJP heavyweight and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has been announced as the candidate for the same.
Soon after the party’s top leaderships’ approval, senior leaders from both the camps have rushed to the ground to campaign for the election. BJD leader Bobby Das on his maiden visit to Sambalpur, after he was named to represent the party in the Sambalpur LS constituency, offered prayer at the Maa Samaleswari temple. Subsequently, he accompanied with thousands of party workers made out his first campaign in the Sambalpur Town.
During his interaction with the public, Bobby asserted that Sambalpur development is the goal of CM Naveen Patnaik.
On the other hand, the BJP workers led by Pradhan’s close associates, also organized a similar campaign to show up their potentials.
Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had visited the Maa Samaleswari shrine earlier on March 26, offered prayers and sought blessings from the Goddess, following his nomination as the Sambalpur Lok Sabha candidate.
BJP MP Candidate for Bargarh segment Pradip Kumar Purohit, has also kick started his election campaign in Bargarh town after getting mandate from the party headquarters.
