Bhubaneswar, March 24: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the state Assembly on Monday that 47 people have lost their lives due to drowning in the sea at various beaches across Odisha, including Puri, over the past five years.
Majhi shared this information in response to a written question by BJP legislator Om Prakash Mishra.
To ensure the safety of tourists, the government has been conducting regular patrolling at the state's beaches. The authorities have identified deep and high-risk areas along the coast and are actively spreading awareness to discourage people from bathing at these dangerous spots.
In addition, fire service personnel and home guards, equipped with necessary rescue tools, have been deployed as lifeguards to provide quick assistance in case of drowning incidents.
