Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Tennis Association (OTA) proudly inaugurated the five-day long ATF 16 & Under Grade-2 Junior Series Tournament 2024 here at Kalinga Stadium Tennis Centre today.
The tournament bridges the developmental gap between the ATF 14 & Under Circuit and the ITF Junior Circuit, offering a crucial platform for young players transitioning to competitive international tennis.
Inauguration Highlights
The opening ceremony witnessed the presence of esteemed dignitaries, including chief guest Asit Tripathy, President of OTA, and Dr. Satyajit Mohanty, Secretary of OTA.
Joining them were Satyajit Mohanty treasurer of OTA; Administrative Officer Sambit Patnaik; ATF Supervisor Prabin Kumar Nayak; and coaches and officials of OTA.
In his inaugural address, Asit Tripathy emphasized OTA’s commitment to nurturing junior tennis talent: “The Asian Under-16 Ranking Tennis Tournament is a stepping stone for aspiring athletes aiming to excel on the global stage. Our vision is to create an environment where young players not only compete but also grow, gaining invaluable experience that will propel them toward success in the ITF World Tennis Tours.”
Dr. Satyajit Mohanty added, “This tournament celebrates youth, talent, and perseverance. With participants from across the country, it fosters international camaraderie and competitive spirit while providing a structured pathway for skill enhancement and ranking progression within the Asian tennis framework.”
Players earn points contributing to their ATF and AITA, with the ITF World Tennis Number (WTN) system providing a real-time skill rating.
The Singles champion (1st position) will earn 300 Asian ranking points, while the runner-up (2nd position) will receive 250 points.
