Bhubaneswar, Dec 23: Following successful implementation of emission free EV Buses in urban transport system, the Odisha government is all set to ply Hydrogen-powered Buses in the prime cities’ routes.
It will be in a first rolled out in Bhubaneswar on a pilot basis, said Urban Development Department sources.
In a bid for eco-friendly transport solutions across the state, a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on Monday among NTPC Limited, GRIDCO Limited and Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) for implementation of Green Energy Technologies in Odisha.
According to the MoU, the NTPC will focus on hydrogen production, GRIDCO will ensure renewable energy supply, and CRUT will manage the operations of the hydrogen-powered buses.
Using Green Hydrogen in the Transport Sector is an initiative by the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy (MNRE) under the National Green Hydrogen Mission.
With the pilot project ensuring zero-emission, eco-friendly hydrogen-powered buses will replace fossil-fueled public transport systems with an investment of Rs.19.5 crores by Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI).
This initiative aims to reduce carbon emissions, enhance operational efficiency, and improve the quality of bus services in the state.
This initiative aligns with Odisha Renewable Energy Policy 2022 and NTPC’s diversification strategy into renewable energy, green hydrogen, and energy storage technologies, said a press release issued by the H&UD Department.
