Kolkata, October 3: Actress turn BJP leader Roopa Ganguly was arrested Thursday and taken to police custody at Police Headquarters, Kolkata today.
Former BJP Rajya Sabha MP Roopa Ganguly was arrested after she sat on a Dharana in front of Basdroni Police Station premises, protesting against the death of a schoolboy in Basdroni.
A schoolboy died after being hit by an excavator in Kolkata's Bansdroni area.
Roopa Ganguly alleged that those involved in the incident were close aides of the local ward TMC counselor.
She said a sad incident happened early in the morning in Mahalaya. A JCB payloader killed a young student of 14 years when he was going to take his tuition. Those involved in this case are close aides of the local ward TMC counselor. So, the police couldn't arrest them despite their request. So we protested there by sitting at the police station. For no reason, the police arrested me and brought me to the police headquarters.
On the other hand, Kolkota Police Commissioner Manoj Kumar Verma said that former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Roopa Ganguly was arrested and taken to court on Thursday morning after she sat on a dharna at Bansdroni police station without any valid reason and did not move from there despite repeated requests, hence obstructing the function of the Police Station. So, a case was registered against her too. She was arrested and produced before the court," Verma said.
