New Delhi, Feb 1: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman today announced the launch of an expanded version of the successful UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) scheme, aimed at enhancing regional connectivity.
Over the next decade, the scheme will introduce air travel options to 120 new destinations, with a goal of transporting an additional 4 crore passengers.
This ambitious plan includes provisions for supporting helipads and smaller airports in remote, hilly, and aspirational regions, including the northeast of India.
Special focus will be placed on building greenfield airports in Bihar, addressing the state’s future aviation needs.
Apart from this, Patna Airport will see capacity expansions, and Bihta’s Brownfield airport will also undergo upgrades.
Sitharaman also highlighted financial support for the Western Kosi Canal ERM project in Mithilanchal, Bihar, which is expected to benefit numerous farmers in the region.
The comprehensive initiative marks a significant step toward improving infrastructure and enhancing connectivity for people in Bihar and surrounding areas.
