New Delhi, Dec 28: The government has announced that it will provide space for a memorial dedicated to former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, a decision communicated to his family and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.
A statement from the Ministry of Home Affairs confirmed that the government had received a request from the Congress president for the allocation of space for Dr. Singh's memorial.
The government further clarified that the formation of a trust would be required for the memorial, and the space would be allocated to it accordingly.
"Following the Cabinet meeting, Home Minister Amit Shah promptly informed Congress President Shri Kharge and the family of the late Dr. Manmohan Singh about the government's decision to allocate space for the memorial," the statement noted.
It also emphasized that while the trust formation and space allocation process would take time, cremation and other formalities could proceed in the interim.
Dr. Singh passed away on Thursday at the age of 92 at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
