Gun peddling gang busted in Bhubaneswar: 5 held, firearms with shots recovered

Bhubaneswar, Dec 25: A Special Squad of Commissionerate Police Bhubaneswar on Wednesday busted a gun peddling gang and nabbed five notorious members of it.

A huge cache of firearms, live shots and other incriminating substances were recovered from their possession.

The incident came to light following an interception of a speeding car wherein at least five youth were onboard.

According to reports, the CP’s Special Squad was keeping vigil on the Cuttack-Bhubaneswar for blocking & checking late at night on Tuesday. Meanwhile, a suspected vehicle raced with tremendous speed jumbled over the presence of armed police at mid night.

Suspecting something fowl, the sleuths chased the vehicle after a long operation and intercepted it. During inventory, illegal pistols, bullets with huge amount of cash were recovered from the vehicle.

Twin City Police Commissioner Suresh Dev Datta Singh while briefing the Pressers in this connection said, the arrested persons have existing criminal records in Bhubaneswar, Puri, Cuttack, Khordha, and Jagatsinghpur district. Several cases are pending against the five persons at Odisha’s different police stations.

During the crackdown, the police team seized five firearms, 15 rounds of live bullets, cash worth Rs 84,000 and a car from the possession of the accused persons. Further investigation is underway to unearth the sources of the firearms and the drop points where they were delivered, Singh added.
