Cuttack, January 26: In a tragic incident, a Class X student was killed while over 20 students of his school became critical as the pick-up van, ferrying schoolboys to Republic Day parade met with an accident.
The incident took place in Cuttack on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Soumya Ranjan Behera, a student of Malabiharpur High School in Cuttack.
According to reports, as many as 25 students of the Malabiharpur High School were traveling in a commercial pick-up van to Saranda to participate in the RD parade. Meanwhile, the vehicle met with an accident and almost all students were severely injured.
All the injured were first rushed to Athagarh Primary Health Care Centre. After preliminary treatment, nine students with severe injuries were shifted to SCB Medical College & Hospital ,Cuttack for resuscitation. One of the injured ones later succumbed to his injuries.
A pall of gloom descended in the area after the incident whereas family resorted to protest over the recklessness of the concerned HM.
