Kathmandu (Nepal), Feb 28: An earthquake of magnitude 6.1 on the Richter scale struck Nepal in the early hours of Friday with its epicenter located in Sindhupalchowk District in the Central Region of the Himalayan nation.
According to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center, the epicenter was located in Sindhupalchowk district's Bhairavkunda at approximately 2:51 AM (local time).
Tremors were felt across several parts of Nepal, particularly in the eastern and central regions. Shocks were also experienced in border areas of India and Tibet, China.
While no immediate reports of injuries or significant damage have emerged, local authorities are actively assessing the situation in the affected regions.
Meanwhile, experts from India’s National Center of Seismology (NCS) emphasized that the recent earthquakes are not connected and highlighted the need for improved infrastructure and housing.
"There is no correlation between these earthquake occurrences in India, as each region has different tectonic settings," said NCS Director Dr. O.P. Mishra.
