Final phase of mega Lok Sabha Election 2024 sees voting across multiple states

New Delhi, June 1: As the Lok Sabha election 2024 approaches its end, the seventh phase is slated to commence on Saturday, marking a significant milestone in India's democratic process. With polling stations opening at 7 am, voters across 57 constituencies spanning eight states and Union territories will exercise their franchise. Additionally, 42 constituencies of the Odisha assembly will witness simultaneous polling.

States participating in this crucial phase include Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha, Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, and Punjab. The Election Commission reports a staggering 10.06 crore voters spread across 1.09 lakh polling stations who will cast their votes.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, vying for a third consecutive term, is contesting from Varanasi in this phase. His opponents include UP Congress chief Ajay Rai, who has contested against him in previous elections. Notable candidates in Uttar Pradesh also include Union ministers Anupriya Patel, Pankaj Chaudhary, and actor-turned-politician Ravi Kishan.

In Bihar, attention is drawn to candidates such as Lalu Prasad's daughter Misa Bharti, former Union minister Ravishankar Prasad, Upendra Kushwaha, and Bhojpuri actor Pawan Singh, contesting from various constituencies.

All 13 constituencies in Punjab will witness polling, with key candidates from different political factions, including Preneet Kaur, Charanjit Channi, and Harsimrat Kaur Badal.

Himachal Pradesh has garnered attention due to the entry of actor-politician Kangana Ranaut, contesting from Mandi against Congress leader Vikramaditya Singh. Union minister Anurag Thakur seeks re-election from Hamirpur, while senior Congress leader Anand Sharma is contesting from Kangra.

West Bengal, with nine constituencies in the final phase, highlights the Basirhat constituency, where the BJP has fielded Rekha Patra against Trinamool Congress's veteran Haji Nurul Islam. Several TMC stalwarts, including Mamata Banerjee's nephew Abhishek Banerjee, are in contention.

The Election Commission has deployed 13 special trains and eight helicopter sorties for Himachal Pradesh to facilitate the transportation of polling and security personnel. Stringent surveillance measures, comprising flying squads, static surveillance teams, surveillance teams, and video viewing teams, are in place to prevent any attempts to influence voters.

Furthermore, the Election Commission has reiterated its directive to refrain from publishing any exit polls until at least half an hour after the conclusion of polls across all states and Union territories.
