Hyderabad, December 28: In a major breakthrough, five members of the banned Communist Party of India (Maoist) have surrendered to the police in Bhadradri Kothagudem district, Telangana. According to a police statement, the surrendered Maoists include four area committee members and one cadre.
The individuals were identified as:
Poonem Pakshi (27) from Bijapur, Chhattisgarh: Joined the CPI (Maoist) in 2016 and became part of the Basaguda LOS Area Committee in 2022. She carried a reward of ₹4 lakh.
Vetti Deva (21) from Bhadradri Kothagudem, Telangana: Active since 2018, he was involved in several attacks, including the 2022 killing of Irpa Ramudu in Kurnapalli. He also had a ₹4 lakh bounty on his head.
Madakam Ungi (22) from Bhadradri Kothagudem, Telangana: Involved in the 2021 Tekulagurma attack that killed 24 security personnel, she was promoted to the Charla LOS Area Committee in 2024, with a ₹4 lakh reward.
Ravva Soma (25) from Bijapur, Chhattisgarh: Active since 2010, he was involved in multiple incidents in Chhattisgarh and carried a reward of ₹4 lakh.
Madivi Gangi (23) from Bijapur, Chhattisgarh: A militia member since 2018, she participated in various attacks and had a ₹1 lakh reward.
The police emphasized their commitment to rehabilitating the surrendered Maoists, offering livelihood support and assistance for reintegration into society.
"We appeal to other Maoist members to surrender and lead a normal life. They can approach their nearest police station or district officials through their families," said the Superintendent of Police, Bhadradri Kothagudem district.
