Nuapada, Nov 6: A leopard that killed a woman and a minor boy in Odisha’s Nuapada district recently was captured by Forest Department personnel.
The leopard was safely caged in the Dharma Bandha area at Kodapali under Sadar Forest Range in Nuapada district.
Local residents had initially spotted the leopard atop a building in their vicinity and promptly notified the Forest Department. Acting on it, a team of five Forest Department members arrived at the scene and set up the cage to capture the big cat.
The capture of the leopard led to heightened tension in the area, with irate locals pelting stones and attacking the animal with sticks in the cage. Subsequently, Forest Department personnel managed to pacify the agitated locals and relocated the leopard to the Sadar Forest Range Office.
Khadial Divisional Forest Officer (DFO), Sushil Kumar Tripathi, stated that the leopard would undergo necessary treatment and, following its recovery, would be released in Nandankanan Zoo.
