New Delhi, Dec 23: With a robust newscast and disaster management mechanism, the IMD is all set to install three more Doppler Radars in Odisha for prompt and accurate weather forecast.
Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, Director General of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed it on Monday.
After installation of the new MET devices, Odisha will be the only state to possess as many as three Doppler Radar observatories at a time.
The new Doppler Radars are scheduled to be installed in Bhubaneswar, Balasore and Sambalpur, Mohapatra said.
Worth mentioning, infrastructure in Sambalpur for the new observatory has already been prepared at Jamadarpali in the city.
These installations are expected to provide critical data, enabling more precise predictions of severe weather conditions such as cyclones, hurricane and heavy rainfall.
In addition to the radar installations, a dedicated research centre focusing on lightning will be established in Balasore. This centre aims to offer deeper insights into lightning patterns and phenomena, contributing to improved safety measures and strategies.
