Bhubaneswar: Mahayuti’s thumping win in Maharashtra culminated Tuesday with the announcement of the name of the incumbent deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis as the next CM of the politically and economically significant western state Maharashtra.
Devendra was born to Gangadharrao Fadnavis and Sarita Fadnavis on July 22 1970. His parents were a middle-class Maharashtrian family in Nagpur.
His father, Gangadharrao Fadnavis, served as a member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council from Nagpur, and his mother Sarita Fadnavis, a descendant of the Kaloti family of Amravati, was the former Director of Vidarbha Housing Credit Society.
Coming from a well to do progressive family, child Devendra was admitted to Indira Convent School, Nagpur for early education. The Indira Convent School has been named after the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
DEVENDRA FADNAVIS – INDIRA GANDHI STORY
Here is a story of his childhood that gives a proper perspective on Devendra Fadnavis’ ideological fundamentalism.
The story was of that time when he was mere 5/6 years old and was enrolled at a school named Indira convent school.
His father was an active member of Jan Sangh, the parent body of the present RSS. Significantly, Nagpur is the headquarter of RSS.
It was the emergency days, when the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had declared emergency in the country. As RSS had been in the forefront of the widespread movement against Emergency, his father was arrested and put in jail for participating in an anti-government protest.
ZIDDI (ADAMANT) DEVENDRA!
Hearing about arrest of his father, child Devendra refused to go to a school named after Indira Gandhi, who he thought responsible for jailing his father. His adamance won. Devendra’s parents enrolled him out of the Indira Convent School to enroll in another school called Saraswati Vidyalaya, run by RSS, from where he passed his class X board exam.
This incident sheds light on the steely resolve of Devendra Fadnavis. When his parents were not allergic to a school named after late PM Indira Gandhi, child Devendra shows his obduracy in joining the RSS operated school, when his parents were active members of Rashtriya Swayam Sevak.
Following his ideology dilligently, young Devendra joined the RSS youth wing Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). He even kept attending RSS shakas from a very young age.
