Jharsuguda, Mar 19: The wife of late senior BJD leader Naba Das- Minati Das is set to meet Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi this evening to discuss about the progress in the ongoing investigation into her husband's murder, which took place over two years ago. She is expected to meet the Chief Minister at the Lok Seva Bhavan in Bhubaneswar.
This meeting follows the Das family's request for an appointment with the Chief Minister, as they seek further progress in the investigation into Naba Das’s tragic death.
Meanwhile, the Odisha Crime Branch continued its investigation into the murder case for a second consecutive day.
A team arrived at the Veer Surendra Sai Airport in Jharsuguda to conduct a thorough inquiry into the sequence of events following the shooting. They focused on the circumstances surrounding how and when Naba Das was airlifted after the attack. The team also questioned two doctors who treated Naba Das after the shooting incident.
The Crime Branch team recorded fresh statements from the family members of Naba Das, aiming to uncover any additional leads in the case. Earlier, a two-member team from the Crime Branch, including Additional SP Vijay Mallick and DSP Diptimayee Mallick, visited Naba Das’s residence and took statements from his daughter Dipali and son Bishal.
Naba Das was tragically shot by Gopal Das, a former Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police, in Brajrajnagar, Jharsuguda, on January 29, 2023. After the attack, Naba Das was airlifted to Bhubaneswar but was declared dead at a private hospital. The accused, Gopal Das, was arrested the following day, and the Odisha government directed the Crime Branch to take over the investigation.
The Crime Branch has already submitted a chargesheet in the trial court at Jharsuguda against Gopal Das.
In the meantime, Minati Das continues to seek a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into her husband's murder and has requested the Chief Minister’s intervention during her meeting today.
